It's Always the Keepers Fault

Don't ever say that again!  If the other team scores a goal, I don't ask why the keeper missed it.  I ask why we lost the ball, why the other team came right down the sidelines and how their player got free at the top of the 18 for a free shot on goal.  It's the toughest job in the world.  You console your teammates, congratulate them, lead them, organize them, educate them and oh by the way...you have to make saves too...

Let Your Keepers Train During Practices

Keepers need foot skills and need to know how to play the game, so make them do drills and play other positions.  They also need to understand what a field player goes through on the field...it's not always easy.  It will give them perspective. However, try and work them into some drills as a keeper to hone their skills and let the field players get the real game feel.

Attend Keeper Clinics
Be There!

Check the main BSI website as we hold regular keeper clinics every week.  Encourage your keepers to attend.  They will get formal training on positioning, saves, diving, parrying, boxing and distribution. The finer points of technique are important and they need the repetitions.  Also, they get to hang out with other keepers.  It helps...
